We have three types of short codes:

a. Platinum numbers -: Short code constituting quadruple numbers i.e. 2222, 5555, 8888, Numbers with religious significance e.g. 786x, Special business numbers e.g. vision 2030, 5040
b. Golden numbers -: These are Short code starting or ending with triple digits e.g. 2227, 1117, 8880, 4000 etc.
c. Normal numbers -: These are shortcodes that have no curtain sequence.e.g. 52505, 22138, 21441

The above short code categories are further divided in to two as below:

Dedicated Short code -: This code is independently owned by a said client and can be linked to a database to provide response on request or queries for particular information.
It gives room for up to 1000 key words and can therefore be used for a multiple of activities based on a client’s needs.
Shared Short Code -: These codes are owned by the PRS Company providing the bulk SMS solution and are rented out to the other companies or individuals. They are cheaper, less complex and non -expansive compared to dedicated short codes. For instants, bulk SMS campaigns for marketing purposes or providing information to clients upon their request.

How the bulk Sms service works:

The client will send in a bulk SMS message with the specific query to a certain short code like 52505
The bulk SMS is then sent to the operators SMSC, Via GSM network. Where the verification of credit is done by the Operators (Safaricom).
The bulk SMS is then pushed to Celcom Africa Limited servers, which shall be directed to query the client Database, hosted at the clients’ offices.
An automated response will be generated for every bulk SMS coming in through the short-code.
Informing the clients of reception of the text message.

Celcom Africa Limited Roles

SMPP connectivity: Celcom Africa Limited will provide direct connectivity to Safaricom. This will adequately handle high bulk SMS volume
Short codes: Celcom Africa Limited will provide the short code for running the service
Technical Support: Celcom Africa Limited will provide the technical support.
Backup Log: Celcom Africa Limited will keep back-up of all transaction Logs.
Updating online reports and Emails: Celcom Africa Limited will give client access to secured web-based reports to monitor traffic
